trouble
I’m struggling a bit with “Fanged Frog.” Though on the one hand it’s come together much more than I thought it would, the ending doesn’t seem to fit the beginning. The characters would never behave in the way I’d intended them to. (It’s really like starting to knit a sweater by working on each of the two sleeves independently.) A man called Miller, a city councilman who’s a right-wing tea party financier and paranoid conspiracy zealot, was meant to have an affair with a cool, punk rock retro hipster type 22-year-old girl named Callie. When spurned by her, he’d kill her in a particularly gruesome way. It would never happen. She wouldn’t sleep with him for anything, and, even if she did, for his part, he wouldn’t care enough about her to do anything except maybe fire off a nasty email. I think I’m going to write the ending anyway–or the part of it that I’d liked the best, then see where I am.
